Use Juvederm® Treatment For Natural Looking Results

The Juvederm® family of injectable fillers contains a modified hyaluronic acid derived from a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body. Over the last 20 plus years, hyaluronic acid has emerged as the miracle compound for filling in wrinkles and helping to restore facial volume. Because of its gel consistency, Juvederm® lasts longer and causes less discomfort and swelling. The fillers include Juvederm® Ultra and Ultra Plus for superficial to deep wrinkles and Voluma for volume correction.

Juvederm® Ultra

Juvéderm Ultra not only fills nasal furrows and oral commisures, but also smoothes superficial to moderate wrinkles in adult patients over 18. A touch-up after a few weeks may further enhance the result and increase the longevity of the benefit. The effects of Juvéderm usually last 6-18 months, depending on the following factors: the form of Juvederm® injected, the type of skin area, the amount injected and the injection technique. The average life of Juvederm® Ultra in the lips is 6-9 months because of the high vascularization and frequent movement of that specific area.

Juvederm® Ultra Plus

Juvéderm UltraPlus is also an excellent volume enhancer. When injected into the cheeks, tear troughs and the area under the eyes, it helps to restore a more youthful appearance in adult patients over 18. The average life of Juvederm® Ultra Plus in the lips is 9-12 months.

Voluma

The first and only FDA-approved injectable gel for the cheek area, Voluma is suitable for adults over 21 years of age. Creating contour, adding volume and a subtle lift, Voluma helps to restore a youthful profile for up to 2 years with optimal treatment.

Pre-Procedure Preparation

Pre-treatment for a few months with Tazorac, Retin-A or another retinoid may enhance results. It is recommended that patients avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatories, such as ginko, grape seed extract, vitamin E, and Omega III’s, for a week prior to the injection session.

The Procedure

In a session lasting only a few minutes, Juvederm® is gently injected under the skin with a fine needle. To reduce discomfort during the procedure, Juvederm® contains an anesthetic called lidocaine. However, an additional anesthetic cream or injection may be requested. Patients can usually return to their social and working life immediately.

Post-Procedure

In the hours following the injection, patients should avoid excessive facial expressions. Similarly, it is recommended that patients avoid exposure to sunlight or excessive heat, such as Turkish baths, saunas or tanning beds, for extended periods during the two weeks after the injection. Patients should not touch, handle or massage the injected site. However, make up and usual skin care may be used on the day after treatment.

Are there any risks?

The most commonly reported side effects for Juvederm® are temporary injection-site redness, swelling, pain/tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps. bruising, itching and discoloration. Predominantly mild in nature, these side effects last 7 days or less. Rare cases of necrosis have been described in the literature. The risk being 1 in 2,500- 23,000 patients. Unlike other fillers, Juvederm® can be removed with hyaluronidase injections to mitigate any of the rare reactions.

Contra-Indications

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should share this information with their physician. A medical history that includes inflammatory skin areas, hypertrophic scarring, auto immune diseases, immunotherapy treatment, known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid and infectious skin problems such as acne should also be shared during the physician consultation.
